“I made this for the exhbition titled ‘Paraphernalia’ that’s opening tomorrow and the work is the embodiment of several things that have been on my mind:
How not to die alone. Perhaps the most reliable way is to have kids; another might be a tool to avoid choking while enjoying breakfast for dinner.
Specificity versus ambiguity and where that boundary lies. Objects that are exceedingly effective in a given scenario or in the performance of a single, highly prescribed action. For example, a boot jack.
The scene in Season 2 Episode 5 of Sex and The City where Miranda chokes on takeout and uses the corner of a moving box to give herself the Heimlich maneuver.
This object, titled (naturally) ‘Three Delicacy Delight,’ is crafted in aluminum. The convex rubber base is placed at the intersection of the wall and the floor with the ash wood knob registering just below your sternum. Downward pressure should do the rest.”
Three Delicacy Delight was created for the exhibition Paraphrenalia during NY Design Week 2024.
